East Acton SNT Week of Action

Aims to reduce crime, improve security in Long Drive

From Monday 23rd to Friday 27th November 2009 East Acton Safer Neighbourhood Team in partnership with Ealing Council Community Safety Unit are holding a week of action aimed at reducing crime and improving security in the residential area of Long Drive, known as the Golf Link Estate.

The aim of the week is to provide the residents with crime prevention advice as well as with practical security measures to reduce opportunities for burglars over the winter months and the festive period.

Each day between 9am and 3pm, a Crime Prevention Stall attended by the officers from the Safer Neighbourhoods Team will be set up at the junction of The Fairway and St Andrews Road. They will offer the residents advice on burglary, bogus callers, rogue traders and the borough wide Nominated Neighbour and Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

The residents of all properties on the estate have received letters from Ealing Council Community Safety Unit offering free fitting of enhanced security fixtures along with information about home security and various neighbourhood initiatives available in the area.

PC Tracy Hider from East Acton Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Burglary is a crime that can greatly affect victims. The assistance from the council and police in protecting homes through additional security measures will actively reduce the opportunities for burglars across the area”.

Maurice Rohan, Ealing Councils Community Safety Liaison Officer for the Acton Area said: "The aim of our project is to raise the awareness of local residents about the need to protect both themselves and their homes as people can and do become complacent in a residential area such as this particularly at this time of year. We hope to reassure and educate all residents with these proactive home security visits whilst offering sound practical advice".
