Acton's Young Building Bridges through Dance

South Acton Safer Neighbourhood Team judge dance event

Over 100 local families turned up to see their children perform during Dance Triangle Grand Finale held last Friday October 30th at the Priory Centre. The event was co-organised by South Acton Safer Neighbourhood Team.

The idea behind this week-long event is to build bridges between the Police and local young community as well as to help them to overcome any barriers which may exist between themselves.

Another aim of this initiative is to create the sense of teamwork among local youngsters through art and music.

With the participants’ age between 4 and 14, the workshops were largely attended by local children from many various backgrounds and ethnic groups including those of African, Caribbean or European descent.

Apart from the final performance, the last day of this event also saw all the performers being awarded with certificates marking their achievements.

Sodi Kakouris, one of the parents participating in the event said: “It was great to see so many local kids working, learning and playing together. I would like to thank the officers from the local Police for participating in this event and awarding the kids with their certificates. It really meant something to them”.

South Acton Safer Neighbourhood Team PCSO Colin Moore, who also sat on the judges’ panel said: “We are very pleased with the way the event went. It is reassuring to see so many people who want to get involved in community initiatives and support the Met in their efforts to make the local areas safer. This event is a sound testament to the need to organise more initiatives of this kind and taking a proactive approach in working together with the members of the public from the earliest age possible”.
