Fancy Dress for Police Raises Money for Charity

Event at Redback benefits "Help for Heroes"

On Tuesday 26th MAY 2009, officers & staff from Ealing Borough Police held a Fancy Dress fund-raising event in support of the "Help for Heroes" charity.

The event was held at the Redback Public House, which very generously provided both their staff & facilities free of charge.

"School Disco" was the theme and a large number of those who attended chose to enter the party spirit and dress accordingly!

A band made of five police officers from Ealing Borough played a whole host of popular tunes ranging from the Beatles to Oasis, which was followed by a disco.

Around 120 people attending the party, where Police officers and civilian staff were joined by their colleagues from Crime Prosecution Service, London Fire Brigade, nurses and staff from New Ealing Hospital, London Ambulance Service and many more.

The officers believe they will have made around £850 on the night. This final figure was supplemented by the generous individual donation of £200 from a member of staff, who didn't wish to be named but said: " I hope this will encourage others to give in the future ".

The officers intend to add this money to the £1,300 they raised at their successful Christmas party and present the cheque to the charity.

DC John Greenfield from Ealing Crime Squad said: "We've now held about ten of these charity functions and I must say a big thank you to both the Redback Public House and to the guys in the band for giving up their facilities, time & effort free of charge. Also, I would like to say a very big thanks to all those who attended this event in support of the charity.

We're very pleased that every penny we raise will go direct to "Help for Heroes" and hope that the monies raised will go some way in helping their attempts to build a rehabilitation centre for the wounded servicemen & women arriving back from the conflicts in Iraq & Afghanistan".
