McDonalds help to clear seven tonnes of rubbish
More than seven tonnes of rubbish and overgrown vegetation have been cleared from a site in Acton during an operation led by Ealing Council, in partnership with fast food giant McDonalds.
Six of the council’s Envirocrime officers teamed-up with volunteers from McDonalds on Hanger Lane to clear the fly-tipping and littering hotspot off Quill Street. Building supplier Wickes supplied tools for the operation, while street cleaners and staff from the council’s refuse and recycling contractors, May Gurney, also helped out.
The operation was launched as part of the six-week long Big Clean-up, which is run by the Keep Britain Tidy Group to make the capital cleaner.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, Cabinet member for Transport and Environment, said: “We've heard a lot in recent weeks about big businesses needing to do more as part of a big clean up, so I'm delighted that in Ealing we've been able to work with them to do exactly that.
"Companies look bad when their packaging is left cluttering the streets, so I'm glad businesses are working with us and taking a more responsible approach to looking after their local area. This is exactly the sort of thing I want to see more businesses getting involved in and I hope other companies will take part in events as part of the Big Clean-up.”
