West London Waste Plan
Ealing, alongside five other West London boroughs (Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond) have joined together to produce a ‘West London Waste Plan’ (WLWP) to plan for the management of waste in the region. Covering a 15 year period up to 2026, the WLWP actively plans for municipal and commercial and industrial waste arisings, satisfying the waste apportionment targets established in the London Plan.
Acton resident Gillian Lesh wrote to ActonW3.com with her concerns about the WLWP and urged residents to voice their opinions before the 25th March deadline.
"Ealing Council have proposed 6 sites between Central Middx Hospital, North Acton, and Old Oak Common Lane to deal with rubbish / waste from no fewer than 6 London boroughs. This waste will be transported to the site and away again. We are already having to tolerate cross rail work, losing a lane of the A40 for the Olympics and possibly tunnelling at Hanger Lane for the high speed train. The area is already full of HGVs, skips, large vehicles using residential roads as cut throughs. This area is already one of the highest polluted areas in London with the cement works and skip company based at Acton Main Line. There are already properties in Lowfield Rd shaking with the investigative works for the cross rail."
