From Monday 2 October to Saturday 21 October you will be able to leave food bank donations at Acton Central station to help those struggling with the rising cost of living.

Station staff will be collecting items on behalf of City Harvest which delivers free surplus food to families across the capital.

The scheme was launched at the suggestion of David Cranstoun who works for Arriva, which operates London Overground services, at the station.

He explained, “I was so inspired and motivated by our customers' willingness and kindness that I thought it would be a good gesture and a privilege to help set up a food bank at our station to help those in need and to curve food wastage.”

The Action Central team will ask for food donations, including packets of rice, pasta, grains, and pulses; tins of meat, fish, beans, and soup; jars of sauces & condiments, as well as long-life milk, fruit juice & squash.

All donations will be welcome if they are in the original undamaged, unopened packaging and are within their use-by date.

“After visiting City Harvest and seeing how they will redistribute the items we collect; I am so delighted with the help of Service Delivery Manager Pauline Lawler, this dream is becoming a reality”, David said.

City Harvest was founded in 2014, forming London's first food redistribution charity.

City Harvest vans cover greater London and beyond, delivering free surplus food to families making the desperate decision between heating their homes and feeding their families. Their 375+ partner charities include food banks, schools, hostels, soup kitchens, community centres, faith groups, and refuges.
