Fundraiser Launched for Acton Woman with Breast Cancer

Ellen Calvelo needs support for living costs and to bring family to the UK

Ellen Calvelo received a devastating diagnosis this December

February 26, 2026

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support Acton resident Ellen Calvelo, who is currently receiving treatment for metastatic breast cancer.

At the time of writing has raised more than £3,400 – around 87% of its target. The GoFundMe appeal was set up by her friend Elaine to help cover essential living costs and to bring Ellen’s family to the UK so they can support her during treatment.

Ellen was first diagnosed with early ‑stage breast cancer in 2017 and underwent successful surgery and treatment, allowing her to return to normal life. In December 2025 she began experiencing sudden breathlessness and palpitations, prompting a series of tests that revealed devastating news: her cancer had returned and spread to her lungs and bones. Doctors have told her that while the condition is treatable, it is no longer curable.

Since then, Ellen has faced repeated hospital admissions and is now in intensive care, where she requires close monitoring. Living alone and far from her family has made daily life increasingly difficult, and her friends say that even before her most recent admission, ordinary tasks had become a struggle. The fundraiser aims to cover the costs of bringing her family to the UK so they can care for her, as well as helping with day ‑to ‑day expenses during her treatment.

Elaine describes Ellen as a kind ‑hearted, generous and thoughtful person whose diagnosis has placed an enormous emotional and financial burden on her. She hopes that community support will allow Ellen to focus on her treatment without the added worry of managing alone. The appeal asks for donations, shares and prayers, saying that every contribution will make a meaningful difference.

The campaign continues to gather support, with donations rising steadily as news of Ellen’s situation spreads.
