Two people had to be taken to hospital and three others were treated for injuries after a car crashed into the Shams Fish Bar on Churchfield Road last Wednesday (12 July).

It is understood that the driver pressed the accelerator rather than the brake shortly before 4.59pm. Two pedestrians were struck with one needing to be taken immediately to a major trauma centre.

Their injuries have since been assessed as neither life threatening nor life changing.

Two ambulances and a fast response car with paramedics was sent to the scene.

Three other people were checked over by paramedics including one who had been inside the premises when the car careered into them.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene. He assisted the police with their enquiries and has been reported for a road traffic offence.

The shop has suffered extensive damage and remains closed.
