The two-year-old girl who was hit by a moped on a pedestrian crossing in Acton remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The police gave further information on her progress this week after she was taken to hospital following the collision which took place on 8 June on The Vale near the junction with Agnes Road close to the Tesco Metro store shortly before 6.34pm.

The girl, who has been named locally as Daisy, was crossing the road with her mother and older brother when she was hit. The rider of the moped, who was wearing a balaclava, stopped at the scene and placed his coat over the stricken toddler.

Shortly after the incident a doctor who was passing by came to assist along with a nurse who was near the scene and they treated the girl until the ambulance arrived.

A helicopter from the London Air Ambulance service was also called to the incident but not used to transport the victim to hospital.

The rider of the moped, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs and remains in custody.

Det Serg Nush Puvitharan from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said. “The incident happened as the girl and her family were crossing the street at traffic lights while other vehicles waited.

“Some of those road users would have seen the incident, or may have recorded the events on dash-cam footage and, if so, I would urge them to come forward and speak to police.

“This information could prove vital in ensuring we can piece together exactly what happened in this incident.”

The girl, who has been named locally as Daisy, attended the nearby Garden Nursery and a fundraiser has been set up to support her family.

In a letter to parents the nursery said, “We would like to raise some money to support her family during this incredibly difficult time. As you all would be, both parents are with Daisy constantly, and the hospital is situated away from Acton. The money can be used to support the family and Daisy as they all focus on her ongoing recovery.”

A JustGiving page has been set up for anyone wishing to make a donation.

As requested by so many of you, we have now set up a Just Giving page, giving everybody the opportunity to support Daisy and her family during this time, as we know she is in your thoughts and prayers.
