TK Maxx has officially opened its new Acton store, drawing large crowds to The Oaks Shopping Centre on Thursday morning (27 August) as the retailer unveiled its 10,085 sq ft unit. Queues formed well before the scheduled 10am opening, with shoppers entertained by a band featuring a singer, guitarist and saxophonist.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by the Ealing Central and Acton MP who said afterwards, “Brilliant to see vote of confidence in W3 as a retail destination”.
The first customers through the door were invited to take part in a “Spin to Win” game offering sweets, prizes and gift cards, adding to the launch-day atmosphere. The new store sells clothing, accessories, homeware, phone accessories and a small range of foodstuffs.
The opening marks the end of a long period of anticipation for Acton residents. The unit had stood empty since Wilko closed its branch in September 2023, leaving one of the largest retail spaces in the town centre unused. TK Maxx confirmed the launch date earlier this month, removing hoardings and revealing staff working intensively inside the store to prepare for opening day.

The interior fit-out appeared to be in its final stages last week, with shelving, signage and stock visible through the glass.
The arrival of TK Maxx is expected to provide a significant boost to Acton’s retail landscape. The Oaks development has struggled with long-term vacancies since opening, and the departures of Wilko, Poundland and Starbucks had raised concerns about the mix of shops in the town centre. A national retailer with strong footfall is seen as a stabilising addition that could attract further investment.

TK Maxx, owned by US-based TJX Companies, operates an off-price retail model offering discounted branded clothing, homeware, beauty products and accessories. Its stores typically draw steady customer traffic thanks to frequently changing stock and a “treasure-hunt” shopping experience.
