Anger Over Council's Treatment Of Priory Centre Users

And calls to delay works at Acton Town Hall

The closure of the Priory Centre - and the way community groups which use it have been treated - will be open to debate at a meeting on Tuesday 18th October.

The Priory in Acton Lane, is due to become a school once again, following a decision by Ealing Council’s Cabinet.

But it means many groups - which rely on the rooms - will have to move out before their new space at Acton Town Hall is ready.

Julie Saunders, Chair of the Priory Community Association, successfully spearheaded a campaign to get 1500 signatures forcing Ealing Council to debate the topic.

She said:  ''The Priory Centre user groups really add a lot to Acton’s community cohesion and Ealing Council should realise the devastating effect its decisions will have.”

She discussed the issue with Lib Dem Councillor Gary Malcolm ahead of the meeting. He said:

''We all think that the Priory Centre should be a primary school but it is possible to delay some of the Acton Town Hall works so that the current Priory Centre user groups have alternative community facilities.

''The Liberal Democrat group wishes to see Ealing Council help out by giving the Priory Centre users priority when booking rooms in the new community building when it is completed.''
