Angie Bray makes last bid to influence Mayor

The Ealing Central and Acton Conservative MP, Angie Bray, has written to the Deputy Mayor (planning), Sir Edward Lister, in a final attempt to get Boris Johnson to step in over the Oaks decision.

In October, Ealing Council gave the go-ahead to Acton Regeneration Company (ARC) for 142 homes (nine storey building) a multi-storey car park and new retail space in the town centre.

ARC say the development will regenerate Acton but the scheme has met with fierce opposition and critics are hoping the London Mayor will throw out the plans.

Below is Angie Bray's letter to Sir Edward Lister (reprinted with permission).

 

Dear Ed,

I gather Boris' decision is likely to be announced on 18th December. Is that correct? Acton residents are really desperate to hear some support from City Hall after making a powerful case to you - we were really grateful for your time - and strong representations to the Mayor himself.

Please do bear in mind how bitter everyone feels about being let down by the cavalier decision of the council which was whipped through by the Labour leadership.

The plans themselves are such a disappointment given what an important site it is to the centre of Acton and there are huge concerns regarding the fact the residential area is to be gated and the affordable percentage is not generous. There are also considerable doubts about the viability of the traffic arrangements where large vehicles are entering and leaving the supermarket site.

We know the Mayor can step in as he did over Hammersmith Town Hall. At the very least we would welcome a Mayoral decision to require more work on these plans as it would give us more time to make the case for major improvements to them.
