Police get new powers to tackle local problems

Following a spate of anti-social behaviour problems on the Friary Park Estate, Acton, W3 local police officers are getting extra powers to move on trouble makers.

The Acton Central Safer Neighbourhood Team in partnership with Ealing Council have set up a dispersal zone covering the Friary Park Estate, Acton, W3. The dispersal zone will be in place from 12am on the 15th November 2010 until 15th April 2011.

Police officers and PCSO's will have the power to disperse groups of two or more in a specified area if there has been harassment, alarm or distress caused to local residents and business or where there is a belief that such harassment may result from their presence. The dispersal zone will allow Police to remove groups of people on the estate causing anti social behaviour for a period of up to 24 hours. Those returning within the time are liable for arrest, a fine and/or imprisonment.

The Power to disperse groups also apply to residents within the dispersal zone. They must leave any public places within the zone when required to do so.


Sergeant Mark Pullen from the Acton Central Safer Neighbourhoods said "The successful granting of this dispersal order reaffirms our commitment to the local community in tackling anti social behaviour. This dispersal zone will assist us in our problem solving initiatives on the estate and improve the quality of life for residents"
